Biography
Rhett Rosenquest Smith graduated from Eastland High School in 1968. He earned a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin in 1978. His career experience includes working as a non-comissioned officer with Allied Universal and an auditor/accountant with the Texas Department of Human Resources.

I am running in the November election for the Texas State Board of Education – District 8. My main objective in seeking this position is that I want the schools in Texas to include the history of Texas (and its people) prior to 1835; prior to Texas becoming a Republic. Our indigenous citizens should know how their ancestors helped Texas become the great State it is today. I would like them to learn about the Indigenous Mexican Native Indians as well as the Indigenous Mexicans who were the first settlers in Texas.
While others around the nation are looking to cancel the true history of America, we Texans must lead by example and take pride in all the cultures that influence our daily lives that make up our beloved State of Texas.
I want to make a difference in the education of our children but I need your vote in order to achieve this.
Me presento en las elecciones de Noviembre para la Junta Estatal de Educación de Texas – Distrito 8. Mi objetivo principal por buscando este puesto es que quiero que las escuelas en Texas incluyan la historia de Texas (y su gente) antes de 1835; antes de que Texas se convirtiera en una República. Nuestros ciudadanos indígenas deben de saber cómo sus antepasados ayudaron a Texas a convertirse en el gran Estado que es hoy. Me gustaría que aprendieran sobre los Indígenas Nativos Mexicanos, así como sobre los Indígenas Mexicanos que fueron los primeros colonos en Texas.
Mientras que otros en todo el país buscan cancelar la verdadera historia de los Estados Unidos, los Tejanos debemos predicar con el ejemplo y enorgullecernos de todas las culturas que influyen en Nuestra vida diaria que conforman nuestro amdo Estado de Texas.
Quiero hacer una diferencia en la educación de nuestros hijos, pero necesito su vota para lograrlo.

ABOUT CRITICAL RACE THEORY (CRT) IN TEXAS SCHOOLS

Your children belong to YOU, not the federal or state government and they certainly do not belong to the teacher’s union.
​
I don’t want my grandchildren taught anything about sex, gay, lesbian or transgenders in school. I believe these types of things should be left to the parents to discuss with their own children. The Teacher’s Union is powerful and they want children exposed to things they may not understand. One of the duties of being a member of the State Board of Education is that they can object to reading materials that are not suitable for children. If elected, I will make sure that the reading books selected for schools will not include inappropriate subject matter.
​
There are some teachers that do not agree with the CRT doctrine. Nevertheless, I strongly encourage every parent of a school age child to visit their child’s classroom to make sure their child is being educated in traditional subjects and not indoctrinated in a political viewpoint you do not agree with.
​
IT IS TIME to take a stand.

SOBRE LA TEORÍA CRÍTICA DE LA RAZA (CRT) EN LAS ESCUELAS DE TEJAS
Sus hijos le pertenecen a USTED, no al gobierno federal o estatal y ciertamente no pertenecen al sindicato de maestros.

No quiero que mis nietos aprendan nada sobre sexo, maricón, lesbianas y los jotos o transexuales en la escuela. Creo que este tipo de cosas deben dejarse en las manos de los padres para que ellos discutan con sus propios hijos. El Sindicato de Maestros es poderoso y quieren que los niños estén expuestos a cosas que tal vez no entiendan. Uno de los deberes de ser miembro de la Junta de Educación del Estado es que pueden objetar los materiales de lectura que no son adecuados para los niños. Si soy elegido, me aseguraré de que los libros de lectura seleccionados para las escuelas no van a incluyar temas inapropiados.
Hay algunos maestros que no están de acuerdo con la doctrina CRT. Sin embargo, recomiendo encarecidamente a todos los padres de un niño en edad escolar que visiten el aula de su hijo para asegurarse de que su hijo esté siendo educado en materias tradicionales y no adoctrinado en un punto de vista político con el que no está de acuerdo.

ABOUT MEXICAN-AMERICAN TEXANS

Having lived in Texas my entire life, I have made many friends in both the Anglo sector as well as the Mexican sector. Mexican-American Texans refer to themselves as Indigenous-Tejanos, so I will respectfully do the same.
​
I have come to know the Indigenous-Tejano people quite well. I know they are extremely respectful as well as kind. They like to discuss hard subjects but not in a confrontational way. For years the one issue that they have wanted addressed is: Why isn’t the Mexican-American (or Indigenous-Tejano) history part of the Texas school curriculum?
​
I do not believe in, nor do I condone, the “cancel culture” and neither do the Indigenous-Tejanos of Texas. They want inclusion, not cancellation or omission of their history so that their children know how the Indigenous-Tejano culture impacted Texas. Including their history in our schools will result in immense pride for all the Indigenous-Tejano children. Pride in themselves as well as immeasurable pride for this State and their Country.

How are we as the citizens of Texas ever going to see the end of racial bias and bigotry if we don’t acknowledge its presence? It has been over 175 years since the Anglo and the Indigenous-Tejano began living alongside each other here in Texas and
IT IS TIME to accept and respect our differences and include the Indigenous Mexican American history in our schools.

Habiendo vivido en Tejas toda mi vida, he hecho muchos amigos en el sector Anglo tambien como en el sector Mexicano. Los Tejanos Mexicano-Americanos se refieren a sí mismos como Indígenas Tejanos, por respetuosamente haré lo mismo.

Conozco muy bien a muchos Indígenas Tejanos. Sé que son extremadamente respetuosos y amables. Les gusta discutir temas difíciles, pero no de manera confrontativa. Han pasado muchos años en los que su principal pregunta sobre sus antepasados es: ¿Por qué la historia Mexicano-Americano (o Indígena-Tejano) no es parte del plan de estudios de la escuela de Tejas?

No creo, ni apruebo, la "cultura de la cancelación" ni tampoco creen Los Indígenas Tejanos de Tejas en “cultura de la cancelación”. Quieren inclusión, no cancelación o omisión de su historia para que sus hijos sepan cómo la cultura Indígena-Tejano impactó a Tejas. Incluir su historia en nuestras escuelas resultará en un inmenso orgullo para todos los niños Indígenas-Tejanos. Orgullo de ellos mismos, y un orgullo inconmensurable por el Estado de Tejas y nuestro país.

¿Quando vamos a ver todo nosotros, los ciudadanos de Tejas, el fin de los prejuicios raciales y la intolerancia si no reconocemos su presencia? WHY DON'T THEY WANT TO TEACH PLAIN OLD READING, WRITING AND ARITHMETIC?

It was not so very long ago that we were young children and our parents told us that school was important and we had to learn how to read, write and do basic arithmetic problems in order to build a solid foundation so whether we chose to attend college or not, either way, we would be viable candidates when choosing our career path.
​
TODAY’S PARENTS SEND THEIR CHILDREN TO SCHOOL AND THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEIR CHILDREN WILL BE TAUGHT IN THEIR CLASSROOM.
​
What is CRT BY TEXAS LAW? It mandates that students be taught “the history of white supremacy, including but not limited to the institution of slavery, the eugenics movement, and the Ku Klux Klan, and the ways in which it is morally wrong. Texas law bans the teaching of the “1619 Project” that examines U.S. history from the date when enslaved people first arrived in America. Also included are historical documents written by people of color.”

Why did Governor Abbott pass such a law when it clearly endangers the innocence of our young children? WHAT WAS HE THINKING?
​
I truly think that this will create a greater divide between people instead of unity. It is hard to understand why the National Education Union (teachers union) wants to promote this division between the races. And by-the-way, why didn’t Governor Abbott include Indigenous Mexican-American history being taught when the majority of students in Texas are Indigenous Mexican-American children? Why is this ethnicity’s history still being cancelled?
​
Let’s discuss “the eugenics movement”. This is also known as “human genetic engineering” and I would like to know why the National Education Union feels it is so important to bring this topic into the classroom. During WWII, Hitler wanted to use the eugenics movement to create the “Master Race” (selective breeding). During the same timeframe in America lists were created promoting people judged to be superior and excluding people of color (all minorities) as being inferior. This sounds like another version of division: Determining who should be allowed to procreate versus those with the wrong DNA.
This subject is another pathway in allowing other topics into the classroom that you may not want; such as being able to choose a different lifestyle Lesbian; Bi-Sexual; Gay; Transexual; Queer (LBGTQ); abortion and sterilization.
Should I be elected, I will not allow books with inappropriate salacious material into our schools. My adversary, Ms. Audrey Young, is also running for State Board of Education in District 8. She has been a teacher for over 27 years. I wonder where her loyalty lies. Will she go along with the dictates of the teacher’s union or will she go against her Union and protect our children?

I will protect our children. IT IS TIME to get back to reading, writing and arithmetic.

¿POR QUÉ NO QUIEREN ENSEÑAR LECTURA, ESCRITURA Y ARITMÉTICA?
No hace mucho tiempo que éramos niños pequeños y nuestros padres nos decían que la escuela era importante y que teníamos que aprender a leer, escribir y resolver problemas aritméticos básicos para construir una base sólida para que, ya sea que elijamos asistir a la Universidad o no, seremos candidatos viables al elegir nuestra carrera profesional.

LOS PADRES DE HOY ENVÍAN A SUS HIJOS A LA ESCUELA Y NO SABEN LO QUE SE LE ENSEÑARÁ A SUS HIJOS EN SU AULA.

¿Qué es CRT SEGÚN LA LEY DE TEXAS? La ley ordena que a los estudiantes se les enseñe “la historia de la supremacía blanca, que incluye, entre otros, la institución de la esclavitud, el movimiento eugenésico y el Ku Klux Klan, y las formas en que es moralmente incorrecto. La ley de Texas prohíbe la enseñanza del “Proyecto 1619” que examina la historia de los Estados Unidos desde la fecha en que los esclavos llegaron por primera vez a los Estados Unidos. También se incluyen documentos históricos escritos por personas de color”.

¿Por qué el Gobernador Abbott aprobó tal ley cuando claramente pone en peligro la inocencia de nuestros niños pequeños? ¿QUÉ ESTABA PENSANDO?
Realmente creo que esto creará una mayor división entre las personas en lugar de unidad. Es difícil entender por qué el Sindicato Nacional de Educación (sindicato de maestros) quiere promover esta división entre las razas. Y, por cierto, ¿Por qué el Gobernador Abbott no incluyó la enseñanza de la historia indígena Mexico-americana cuando la mayoría de los estudiantes en Tejas son niños indígenas Mexico-americanos? ¿Por qué se sigue cancelando la historia de esta etnia?

Hablemos del “movimiento eugenésico”. Esto suena como otra versión de la division de la juente; determinar a quién se le debe permitir procrear frente a quién tiene el DNA incorrecto.

Este tema es otro camino para permitir que otros temas entren en el salón de clases que tal vez no desee; como poder elegir un estilo de vida diferente como: lesbiana; Bisexual; Maricón; transexuale; o joto (LBGTQ); aborto y esterilización.

Si soy elegido, no permitiré que entren en nuestras escuelas libros con material obsceno inapropiado. Mi adversaria, la Sra. Audrey Young, también se postula para la Junta Estatal de Educación en el Distrito 8. Ha sido maestra por más de 27 años. Me pregunto dónde está su lealtad. ¿Seguirá los dictados del sindicato de maestros o irá en contra de su sindicato y protegerá a nuestros niños?

COLLEGE VOCATIONAL CLASSES - There are many students that do not want or may not qualify attending a four-year college/university. We need to offer these students a chance to be able to earn their livelihood and be trained in a trade by the time they leave public school. We must not ignore the potential problems these children will face when they become adults and are seeking employment if they have no skills. I think that we should offer middle school and high school students a chance to learn a trade by having them attend COLLEGE VOCATIONAL CLASSES and earn an Associates Degree (2-years) for a specific trade. The benefits to our communities would be significant. Attending College Vocational classes would be free to the student. This program would target particular socioeconomic factors
CLASES UNIVERSITARIAS VOCACIONALES - Hay muchos estudiantes que no quieren o pueden no calificar para asistir a un colegio/universidad cuatro años. Necesitamos ofrecerles a estos estudiantes la oportunidad de poder ganarse la vida y capacitarse en un oficio para cuando terminen la escuela pública. No debemos ignorar los posibles problemas a los que se enfrentarán estos niños cuando sean adultos y busquen empleo si no tienen habilidades. Creo que deberíamos ofrecer a los estudiantes de secundaria y preparatoria la oportunidad de aprender un oficio haciéndolos asistir a CLASES UNIVERSITARIAS VOCACIONALES y obtener un título de asociado (2 años) para un oficio específico. Los beneficios para nuestras comunidades serían significativos. Asistir a clases vocacionales universitarias sería gratis para el estudiante. Este programa se enfocaría en factores socioeconómicos particulares.
INCLUSION OF HISTORY OF THE PEOPLE OF MEXICAN ETHNICITY - For many years, Anglo Texans have been hesitant to include the true history of Mexican Americans and Indigenous Mexican Indians in our school’s history books. These people were the first people to live in Tejas, Mexico which in time became Texas, United States of America. This part of Texas history has been so diluted over the years that our Mexican American communities have been pleading to have their identity restored in schools. For whatever reason Texas chose to “cancel” the role these people played in creating our State – it is time to right this wrong. “THOSE WHO CANNOT REMEMBER THE PAST ARE CONDEMNED TO REPEAT IT.” (George Santayana)
INCLUSIÓN DE LA HISTORIA DE LOS PUEBLOS DE ETNIA MEXICANA - Durante muchos años, los anglo texanos han dudado en incluir la verdadera historia de los mexicoamericanos y los indígenas mexicanos en los libros de historia de nuestra escuela. Estas personas fueron las primeras personas en vivir en Tejas, México, que con el tiempo se convirtió en Texas, Estados Unidos de América. Esta parte de la historia de Texas se ha diluido tanto a lo largo de los años que nuestras comunidades mexicoamericanas han estado suplicando que se restablezca su identidad en las escuelas. Cualquiera sea la razón por la que Texas optó por “cancelar” el papel que desempeñaron estas personas en la creación de nuestro Estado, es hora de corregir este error. “QUIEN NO PUEDE RECORDAR EL PASADO ESTÁ CONDENADO A REPETIRLO.” (George Santayana)
CRITICAL RACE THEORY (CRT) DOES NOT BELONG IN TEXAS SCHOOLS -
I believe that CRT should not be allowed to be a part of the curriculum for any student attending any Texas school. As a parent, you have every right to refuse that you child be taught about sex; reproduction; different lifestyle choices (LGBTQ); or politics. I urge parents to drop by your child’s classroom to hear what is being taught. Demand that you are allowed to read the books your child is given but kept in the classroom. YOU HAVE RIGHTS. Your child belongs to you - NOT the Federal Government; NOT the State Government and NOT the teacher’s union.
